Meet Mama Dawn! This triple threat, was born and raised in The Bahamas. She possesses many accolades and talents at such a young age. She has trained with The Bahamas Dance Theatre, Louis Seiler Academy of Dance, and Frenchwoods Performing Arts, where she discovered her love for teaching. After high school she spent 4 months in Trinidad, receiving her Afro Jazz and Caribbean Movement certification. She then brought her talents to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. She is a graduate of the Performing Arts Foundation, Theatre and Dance Performance Programs at Holland College. She also attended Acadia University where she studied Theatre, English Literature and Sociology. In 2015, she started Afro Jazz classes in Charlottetown, and was one of the first black instructors on the Confederation Centre’s Dance Umbrella Staff. She has paved the way for many Caribbean artists here on PEI and inspired women like herself to express their culture through dance. She initiated the Holland College Dance Team in 2014, and has been coaching ever since. She is a National Award Winner and the assistant choreographer for Xclusiv Dance Crew. She has shared the stage with Dancehall and Soca Artists, such as Popcaan and Destra. Her story as a mother, student, and teacher, definitely sets an example for young, black, and artistic women.
